Korea

Korea is in East Asia and is called the “Land of the Morning Calm.” But its history is not calm. In the past 100 years, Korea faced colonization, war, division, and fast modernization. The Korean War started in 1950. Millions died, and Korea was divided into North and South. The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) still shows that tensions remain. Even with agreements, conflicts and political disputes continue to affect people. Today, South Korea is a lively democracy with a strong economy. North Korea is isolated and ruled strictly. People in both countries still face history’s effects, like separated families and security threats.
